“Choosing Your First Telescope” with J. Kelly Beatty
Finderscope
Aligning your finderscope is pretty easy and you can do this in under 5 minutes depending on how accurate you want it. Before you can align it, you have to make sure that you meet the following conditions:
1. Your finderscope has adjustable knobs. Some telescopes are fixed and therefore do not need to be adjusted.
2. If your finderscope is removable, tighten down the mounting screws to ensure it is solidly in place.
3. You are in clear sight of an object that is at least half a mile away, or about 800 meters.
4. You have eyepieces for your telescope handy.

Discovered nearly 170 years ago, orbiting the Sun inside the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, 16 Psyche is thought to be the exposed iron core of an ancient protoplanet. From its size and its likely composition, it has an estimated worth of around $10,000,000,000,000,000,000 ($10 quintillion).
